Job summary

The National Institutes of Health seeks a Nurse (Research Specialist) to collaborate with the Principal Investigator and serve as an Associate Investigator on clinical research protocols. • Collaborate with the PI to implement and oversee clinical research protocols.
• Document, collect, and record participant encounters in the medical record according to licensure and policy.
• Identify and resolve protocol design or execution issues with the PI.
• Educate subjects and families on eligibility, consent, and study procedures.
• Provide nursing care to research participants and monitor safety as part of the study team.
• Contribute to data capture, analysis, and presentation of study results.

You will contribute to and manage aspects of the clinical protocol life cycle, including: planning, design, and development; collection and processing of data; data interpretation and analysis; and oral/written presentation of data related to the incumbent duties and responsibilities.

Duties

• Documents, collects, and records all participant encounters in the legal medical record per licensure and institutional requirements.
• Collaborates with Principal Investigator (PIs) to identify and resolve existing or anticipated protocol implementation, design, and execution problems.
• Establishes and manages guidelines for patient management of and coping with common diseases and drug-related complications and/or adverse events.
• Defines procedures or practices which will be used in the protocol to minimize individuals' susceptibility to undue influences and unnecessary risks (physical, psychological, etc.) as research subjects.
• Educates and counsels subjects and subjects' families on such issues as patient eligibility and registration, supportive care, post-study evaluation, and informed consent.
• Collaborates in the provision of and provides direct nursing care for research participants.
• Ensures ongoing understanding of the research process.
• Creates, uses and participates in revising data capture forms to meet study needs.
