Job summary

The Division of Rheumatology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a Nurse Practitioner to join its clinical team.   • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer applications.
  • Strong clinical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient histories; perform comprehensive and focused physical examinations; order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests; and manage acute and chronic patient conditions.
  • Triage patient inquiries and clinical concerns, providing timely assessment and follow-up.
  • Counsel and educate patients and caregivers regarding disease processes, treatment options, and ongoing care management.
  • Support patient access initiatives by managing follow-up visits, urgent visits, and shared-care models.
  • Deliver patient care both collaboratively with physicians and autonomously within the scope of practice.
  • Prescribe medications and document all patient-caregiver encounters in the EMR.
  • Order, supervise, and administer infusion therapies.
  • Screen and enroll eligible patients in clinical trials in accordance with approved research protocols.

Position Summary

The Division of Rheumatology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly motivated and patient-centered Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join its dynamic clinical team. The NP will provide direct patient care and care coordination in collaboration with faculty physicians across a variety of rheumatologic subspecialties, including systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, inflammatory arthritis, and connective tissue diseases. This role will be integral in supporting patient access, optimizing chronic disease management, and contributing to multidisciplinary care models within an academic academic medical center setting.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient histories; perform comprehensive and focused physical examinations; order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests; and manage acute and chronic patient conditions.
  • Triage patient inquiries and clinical concerns, providing timely assessment and follow-up.
  • Counsel and educate patients and caregivers regarding disease processes, treatment options, and ongoing care management.
  • Support patient access initiatives by managing follow-up visits, urgent visits, and shared-care models.
  • Deliver patient care both collaboratively with physicians and autonomously within the scope of practice.
  • Obtain and review outside medical records and diagnostic reports and collaborate with physicians to modify treatment plans, as appropriate.
  • Provide education and support regarding treatment protocols and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prescribe medications and document all patient-caregiver encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete documentation in Epic.
  • Order, supervise, and administer infusion therapies.
  • Provide clinical support for patients receiving intravenous medications in the infusion center.
  • Screen and enroll eligible patients in clinical trials in accordance with approved research protocols.
  • Perform study-related procedures in compliance with protocol requirements and institutional policies.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate research data associates and student volunteers.
  • Participate in clinical research and clinical trials, as appropriate, based on divisional needs and interests.
  • Support multiple clinical research studies through the coordination and implementation of protocols involving human subjects.
  • Maintain accurate and complete case report forms and research documentation.
  • Participate in divisional initiatives related to patient education, quality improvement, clinical outcomes, and care standardization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner in the care of adults, plus one to two years of related experience.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner (NP) (or proof of application) and Registered Nurse (RN) licenses
  • Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong clinical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience caring for patients with autoimmune, rheumatologic, or chronic inflammatory conditions.
  • Familiarity with the Epic electronic medical record system.
  • Interest in academic medicine, including opportunities to participate in clinical research, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives.
Other Requirements
  • Must satisfy all clinical credentialing and privileging requirements of NewYork-Pre sbyterian Hospital
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
