Sun River Health’s Jeannette J. Phillips Health Center located in Peekskill, New York, is pleased to announce that it is reviving its Nurse Practitioner Residency Program with a new and improved program starting September 2025!

Sun River Health will be accepting applications for the Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program with a focus on rural/migrant health. The class of 2025-26 will begin in September 2025. Sun River Health is committed to leadership, transformation, and innovation in health care, we are also well versed in Nurse Practitioner Residency Program structure and curriculum from our previous experience from 2017-2020. This residency is designed for new nurse practitioners with a commitment to developing career practices in the challenging setting of the FQHC and/or with special populations. There is a one-year employment commitment after completion of the program.

The Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program has the following three goals:

1. Prepare Nurse Practitioners to assume full responsibility for the primary care of complex underserved populations across all life cycles and in multiple settings, focusing on rural communities and migrant workers.
2. Develop the clinical and operational confidence necessary for efficient, effective, and productive practice as a member of the health care team in a FQHC by building upon the education and practice base acquired in the educational program leading to certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
3. Increase the number of Nurse Practitioners choosing to build long-term careers in FQHCs and building their capacity for leadership positions within those organizations and within the healthcare system of the future.

Position Summary: The Nurse Practitioner Residency Program at Sun River Health is designed to provide newly graduated Nurse Practitioners with a comprehensive training experience that enhances clinical skills and prepares them for independent practice. The residency program focuses on serving diverse and underserved populations within a community-based healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care: Provide primary care to patients, including obtaining complete patient histories, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans.
2. Clinical Rotations: Complete rotations with specialty populations, particularly in rural and underserved areas, to gain experience in various healthcare settings.
3. Preventative Health: Perform preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and provide direct treatment and management of health conditions.
4. Patient Education: Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers on preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
5. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments and care plans, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
6. Interprofessional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with internal and external preceptors to ensure smooth clinical experiences and gradual progression of expertise and skills.
7. Compliance: Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including established medical and specialty protocols.

Residency Annual Salary, Year 1: $85,000/year

Residency Annual Salary, Year 2: $115,000/year

Minimum Education Requirement: Master’s Degree

Minimum Licensure upon graduation: Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State

Required Skills & Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures that nurse practitioners are trained to do and are necessary for practicing in health care centers.
2. Competence in delivery of health care to patients (including preventative health education).
3. Ability to collaborate with other members of the Health Center in order to maintain high quality standards and achieve client satisfaction.
4. Bilingual in both English and Spanish (orally and written) is preferred.

Starting Salary after completion of program: $154,876/year
