Summary of Job Duties: A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) or Senior Nurse Anesthetist is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who provides anesthesia services in a collaborative care team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based anesthesia. The CRNA provides anesthesia for patients of all acuity levels in a variety of settings. CRNAs must be licensed by the State of Arkansas as an RN and ARNP, and be certified by the Council on Certification/Recertification of the AANA. Responsibilities include general and regional anesthesia. This position will supervise and direct Anesthesia Techs.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Nurse Anesthesia;

  • Current CRNA license

  • 1 year of CRNA experience

  • Certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (proof of these requirements may be requested at any time).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) year of CRNA experience, preferably in a Tertiary care hospital

  • Must have accountability and high-level problem-solving abilities.


Additional Information:

Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document the pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient.

  • Review, request, and order (as state law permits) laboratory/diagnostic studies.

  • Obtain informed consent for anesthesia and related services.

  • Select, obtain, order, and administer preanesthetic medication or treatment.

  • Develop and implement an anesthesia care plan.

  • Select, obtain, prepare, and use equipment, invasive and non-invasive monitors, supplies, and drugs for administering sedation, anesthesia, and pain management services; perform safety checks as needed.

  • Select, order, obtain, and administer analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products necessary to provide anesthesia services.

  • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response, selecting, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator support to maintain patient stability during transfer.

  • Initiate and administer post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system.

  • Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post-anesthesia period.

  • Evaluate the patient’s response to anesthesia and surgery; take appropriate corrective action during the post-anesthesia period.

  • Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.

  • Manage emergencies by assessing, stabilizing, and determining disposition of patients, including providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.

  • Participates in required educational programs.

  • Participates in monthly departmental meetings.

  • Seeks ongoing professional educational growth.

  • Maintains current licensure requirements for CRNA.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
