Job summary

Bowen Health is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to collaborate with the psychiatrist on patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management in Indiana. The role includes test interpretation, patient education, and coordinating referrals for inpatient care as needed.

The ideal candidate holds a MSN or higher and PMHNP certification with prescriptive authority in Indiana, plus CPI and BLS/First Aid certifications.

Qualifications

• PMHNP certification or eligibility required.
• Prescriptive Authority in Indiana required or eligible.
• CPI certification to be obtained after hire.
• BLS and First Aid certifications to be obtained after hire.
• Current ANCC PMHNP certification preferred/required.
• Background checks (criminal and driving) must be satisfactory.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans.
• Collaborate with psychiatrist, nursing staff, therapists and clinical team.
• Prescribe medications and order/interpret tests as needed.
• Educate patients about medications, risks and outcomes.
• Refer patients for inpatient care when necessary.
• Engage in follow-up and ensure continuity of care.

Description

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with the psychiatrist to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. This position works under the supervision of the Psychiatrist.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. • Provides patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.


• Collaborates with the physicians, nursing staff, therapists, and other members of the clinical team.


• Provides psychiatric health services, education, counseling, and emotional support.


• Refers patients for inpatient care, in collaboration with the staff psychiatrist, as necessary.


• Issues medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines.


• Orders laboratory tests, interprets, and explains the test results to patients.


• Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations.


• Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary.


• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involves moderate exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.


• The normal work routine has a minimal ergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.


• The position may require a minimal amount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing.


• Certificate or Professional License:
  
  
  
  • Current certification or eligible to be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  
  
  • Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  
  
  • Currently holding or eligible to obtain Prescriptive Authority in Indiana.
  
  
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
  
  
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
  
  
  
  


• Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.


• Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks.
