Job summary

Bowen Health in Indiana is seeking a licensed Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care to work collaboratively with the Medical Doctor, perform patient assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop and manage treatment plans.

You will order and interpret lab tests, prescribe medications, educate patients, maintain medical records, and provide follow-up care. A valid Indiana FNP with prescriptive authority, CPI and CPR/First Aid certifications is required plus a state license.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with prescriptive authority in Indiana.
  • CPI, CPR and First Aid certifications obtained after hire and kept current.
  • Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Doctor and clinical team.
  • Provides primary care health services, education, counseling and support.
  • Issues medication prescriptions per treatment guidelines.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory tests and explains results to patients.
  • Educates patients about medications, risks and outcomes.
  • Communicates with patients and follows up as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care works collaboratively with the Medical Doctor to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, and prepare medical records. This position works under the supervision of the Medical Doctor.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role, all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. These essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Provides patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Doctor, staff psychiatrist, nursing staff, therapists and any other member of the clinical team.
  • Provides primary care health services, education, counseling, and emotional support.
  • Issues medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines.
  • Orders laboratory tests, interprets, and explains the test results to patients.
  • Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations.
  • Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involves moderate exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • The normal work routine has a minimal ergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
  • The position may require a minimal amount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Certificate or Professional License: Current Certification or eligible to be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
    • Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
    • Currently holding or eligible to obtain Prescriptive Authority in Indiana.
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
