Job description

Position Summary

The Psychiatric Clinician provides high‑quality psychiatric services in an integrated care program within a family medicine setting, using a team‑based model. The clinician collaborates with Primary Care Physicians, Behavioral Health Consultants, and other providers in ambulatory or telehealth clinics to offer psycho‑pharmacotherapy and consultative care for primary care patients and other providers.

Responsibilities
  • Determine the nature and extent of mental health or substance use disorders and formulate treatment programs in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Participate actively in integrated health‑care meetings and provide comprehensive care for clients.
  • Offer sound and ethical pharmacotherapy, monitor therapy progress, and review laboratory results to provide holistic care.
  • Apply psychopharmacologic approaches, provide emotional support, and give professional psychiatric opinions during treatment team discussions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Engage in peer review, quality improvement, and quality assurance activities; attend provider meetings as required.
  • Prescribe psycho‑pharmacological medications following national, state, and clinic guidelines under collaborative practice agreements.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, counsel patients, and document progress accurately and timely.
  • Refer patients to consultative services when needed and manage a scheduled clinic schedule to optimize patient access.
  • Respond to coding and billing inquiries promptly and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Participate in after‑hours call services, coordinate coverage for inbox tasks, and maintain a customer‑service orientation.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as immunizations and injections as part of the clinical role.

Holds advanced nursing or physician assistant licensure with psychiatric training, current BLS, and unrestricted DEA license.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant with specialization in psychiatric training or M.D. degree with completion of psychiatric residency.
  • Licensure in Alaska as Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric ANP), Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Medical License, or Physician Assistant License.
  • Current BLS certification and unrestricted DEA license.
  • Preferably bilingual; skilled in working with diverse populations in resource‑constrained settings.
  • Previous experience in psychiatry, substance use treatment, and multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills suitable for working with a multidisciplinary team.
Physical, Sensory, and Environmental Qualifications

Work requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands and arms, seeing, talking, and handling paper or computer documentation. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials is anticipated.
