Job summary

UW Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the PICU expansion team at American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI. The role focuses on inpatient pediatric care, with 100% FTE and shifts transitioning to 12 hours, including rotating weekends.

The APRN/PA will perform comprehensive daily assessments, participate in rounds, and execute procedures under scope-of-practice guidelines. Benefits include comprehensive coverage and tuition assistance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: NP requires Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing; PA requires Bachelor’s or Master’s in PA.
  • Licensure: Wisconsin NP or PA licensure (Active).
  • NP requires active RN and APRN certifications with prescriptive authority; board certification in acute care pediatrics may be included.
  • PA requires active PA license with prescriptive authority and PA board certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient pediatric care on the PICU expansion team.
  • Conduct daily physical assessments of patients with acute health problems.
  • Participate in daily rounds and adjust care plans with attendings and consultants.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures per protocol (sedations, line placement, airway management).

Job description

Work Schedule:
100% FTE; (Currently 10 hour shifts, transitioning to 12 hour shifts in the future) with rotating weekends.

As an Advanced Practice Provider, you'll play an integral role in our cardiac inpatient care teams by providing high-quality, cost-effective care to patients.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to:

  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to both well and ill pediatric patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Conduct comprehensive daily physical assessment of patients with acute health problems.
  • Participate in daily rounding and collaborate with attendings and consulting team to adjust plans of care.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures independently as outlined in practice agreements/scope of practice including, but not limited to, the following: sedations per protocol, line placement for venous or arterial access, airway management.

Education:
Minimum -

  • If Nurse Practitioner: Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing Program
  • If Physician Assistant: Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.

Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum - State of Wisconsin NP or PA licensure

If Nurse Practitioner:

  • Active RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active board certification as a NP in area of clinical practice. These may include the following: Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

If Physician Assistant:

  • Active PA license, including prescriptive authority, in state(s) of practice AND
  • Active PA board certification
