Job description

Overview

The Myocardial Infarction Nights Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides advanced nursing care and physician support during the treatment of patients. The Nurse Practitioner provides leadership and support to the overall area of specialty. The Nurse Practitioner documents patient teaching, refers and communicates patient abnormalities to appropriate physicians, performs clinical procedures, serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff regarding patient and disease management, and facilitates practices in compliance with JCAHO requirements. The position's practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of acute complex patients' health problems for admitted patients, outpatients, and ED admissions.

Minimum of 3 years APN/PA experience, preferably in the cardiac specialty, is preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years experience as an RN is preferred. Current NJ License/Board certification, ACLS, BLS, DEA are required.

Responsibilities

  1. Obtains a thorough patient history, including chief complaint, primary symptomatology, course since onset, incidence, progress, and therapy effects. Completes medical and social history, performs physical examination, recognizes normal and abnormal findings, and records findings clearly. Makes recommendations for ancillary studies, develops problem lists, formulates diagnoses, and educates patients on disease and prevention.
  2. Determines and implements therapeutic plans, writes orders, communicates with supervising physicians regarding patient status, diagnostic results, and treatment updates. Collaborates with the healthcare team in care planning.
  3. Utilizes assessment skills to develop education plans addressing patient/family needs, including nursing diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and discharge planning. Communicates care plans with patients and families, and assesses educational needs.
  4. Works independently and with physicians in rounding at Sub Acute facilities, in the hospital, and in the home setting to reduce length of stay while maintaining quality care. Provides general medical care in various settings.
  5. Mentors nursing staff to ensure high-quality care.
  6. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  7. Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing school, MSN with APN credentials, minimum 5 years RN/specialty experience, effective communication and leadership skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred: 2+ years in Nurse Practitioner role.

Licenses and Certifications Required: Advanced Practice Nurse License, AHA BLS HCP Certification.

Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

For Physician Assistant: Completion of an accredited PA program, PA license, and BLS certification required.
