Job summary

UW Health in Madison, WI is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Thoracic Surgery Service. This 100% FTE role provides inpatient and ambulatory care for acute thoracic illnesses, including procedures and collaborative care with surgeons, RNs and other APPs.

The position involves four 10-hour shifts per week with hours subject to department needs. Candidates must meet Wisconsin licensure requirements and hold active certifications as NP or PA.

Qualifications

• If Nurse Practitioner: Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing Program.
• If Physician Assistant: Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.
• Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.
• Active Wisconsin RN or PA license depending on track, plus board certification as NP or PA.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients with acute thoracic illnesses (lung, esophagus, mediastinum).
• Perform routine procedures: chest tube placement/removal, drain removal, suturing, suction bronchoscopy, US-guided thoracentesis, J-tube changes, VAC dressing changes.
• Collaborate within Thoracic Surgery Service with RNs, APPs and surgeons.

Education

If Physician Assistant: Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.

Work Schedule:

100% FTE, Four 10 hour shifts/week. Hours may vary based on the needs of the department.

As an Advanced Practice Provider, you'll play an integral role in our inpatient and ambulatory care teams by providing high-quality, cost-effective care to patients.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to:

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients with primarily acute thoracic illnesses, specifically disorders of the lung, esophagus and mediastinum (non-cardiac).


• Perform routine procedures such as: chest tube placement and removal, drain removal, suturing, suction bronchoscopy, US guided thoracentesis, J tube changes, and VAC dressing changes.


• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team including RNs, APPs, and surgeons within the Thoracic Surgery Service.

Education:

Minimum -

• If Nurse Practitioner: Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing Program.


• If Physician Assistant: Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum -

If Nurse Practitioner:

• Active RN and APNP license in State of Wisconsin AND


• Active board certification as a NP. These include the following: Adult; Adult/Gerontology Acute Care; or Emergency.


• Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) or required to obtain within the first 12 months of employment.

If Physician Assistant:

• Active PA license in State of Wisconsin AND


• Active PA board certification.

All Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant applicants must have:

• Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.
