Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a contingent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Detroit. This inpatient, operating room–based role provides care for high-acuity adult cardiac surgery patients in a fast-paced, highly specialized environment.

The successful candidate will perform advanced assessments, participate in pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, and assist in surgical procedures including EVH and first/second cardiac surgery assisting, while

Qualifications

• Master's degree in NP/PA program from an accredited institution.
• Active Michigan NP/PA license and national certification.
• BLS and ACLS certification required; EVH and cardiac surgery assisting certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced assessment, differential diagnosis, and clinical decision-making with cardiothoracic surgeons.
• Deliver pre-, intra-, and post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic patients.
• Perform patient evaluations, histories, rounds and physical examinations, and prepare discharge summaries.
• Assist in all surgical procedures, including EVH harvesting and first/second assisting in cardiothoracic operations.
• Formulate and implement post-operative treatment plans under physician supervision.
• Maintain current BLS/ACLS certification and adhere to department protocols.

• Provide advanced assessment, differential diagnosis, and clinical decision-making in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons
• Deliver comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic patients
• Perform patient evaluations, document histories, conduct rounds and physical examinations, and prepare discharge summaries
• Assist in all surgical procedures, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting, and first/second assisting in cardiothoracic operations
• Formulate and implement post-operative treatment plans under physician supervision
• Maintain current BLS/ACLS certification and adhere to department protocols and guidelines

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
• Current Michigan licensure as NP or PA
• National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) certification
• First/Second Cardiac Surgery Assisting certification
• DEA registration and Michigan Controlled Substance License (PA only); DEA registration (NP only)
