Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Cardiothoracic Surgery team. You will deliver specialized care to postoperative cardiothoracic patients, collaborating with surgeons and intensivists to manage complex cases and life-support therapies.

Inpatient duties will dominate (75%), with outpatient follow-up (25%). You will document thoroughly, participate in quality initiatives, and join a rotating on-call schedule including every third weekend.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited NP or PA program.
• Current Michigan licensure as NP or PA (or proof of application on file).
• National certification: ANCC or AANP (NP) or NCCPA (PA).
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Cardiothoracic Surgical First Assist certification.
• DEA registration and Michigan Controlled Substance License (PA only); DEA registration (NP only).

Responsibilities

• Inpatient evaluations and procedures within the cardiothoracic surgery team.
• Manage medications and therapeutic interventions with your training.
• Provide patient and family education and detailed medical documentation.

Job Description

As a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant on our Cardiothoracic Surgery team, you'll deliver specialized care to critically ill patients with complex cardiovascular disease, particularly in the immediate postoperative period. You'll work collaboratively with experienced cardiothoracic surgeons and intensivists to manage patients requiring advanced life-support therapies and complex hemodynamic monitoring.

In the inpatient setting (75% of your time), you'll conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, perform procedures as appropriate to your training and credentials, manage medications and therapeutic interventions, and provide patient and family education. Your outpatient responsibilities (25% of your time) include follow-up care for post-surgical patients and clinic consultations.

You'll maintain detailed medical documentation, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and stay current with evidence-based practices in cardiothoracic surgery and critical care. You'll also participate in the on-call rotation, covering weekends every third week to ensure continuous, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (CCNE/NLNAC) or Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) program


• Current Michigan licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (or proof of application on file)


• National certification: ANCC or AANP (NP) or NCCPA (PA)


• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification


• Cardiothoracic Surgical First Assist certification


• DEA registration and Michigan Controlled Substance License (PA only); DEA registration (NP only)

Preferred Qualifications
