Job description

Advanced Practice Provider – Acute Care Surgery – Surgical ICU

Work schedule: Full-time. 12hr PM shift: 5pm–5am. 14–16 shifts per month. Weekends and holidays required.

PM Stipend: Base salary plus $20,000PM stipend (paid monthly – $1,666.67).

Annual CME allowance: $2,000.00 for recertification, fees, CMEs, etc.

Position Summary

Provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice to acute care services and emergency medicine patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician. Coordinate plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals. Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. Interpret lab and diagnostic tests. Assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment of disease. Plans include patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  2. Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
  3. Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  4. Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  5. May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and other health care providers.
  6. Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed. Provide educational information by conducting workshops, in-service training and distributing appropriate materials for patients and staff.
  7. Serve as the expert clinical resource to the clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  8. Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
  9. Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Applicants must be an advanced practice provider (Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) with a valid Alabama license, a collaborative practice agreement, and a proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary acute care team. Additional qualifications may include prior surgical ICU experience, proficiency in ventilator management, and commitment to continuous professional development.
