Work Shift

Wellstar Medical College of Georgia Health is seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Medical Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our multidisciplinary oncology team. This provider will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and follow-up care. The Medical Oncology APP will work collaboratively with medical oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals while practicing with an appropriate level of clinical autonomy. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes by providing high-quality oncology care in a dynamic ambulatory setting.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and manage patients throughout their cancer journey, including initial consultations, treatment planning, active cancer treatment, symptom management, survivorship care, and follow-up visits.
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical examinations.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory studies, diagnostic imaging, and other clinical tests.
  • Assess treatment response, disease progression, and treatment-related toxicities.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment interventions based on clinical findings.
  • Serve as a primary provider for oncology patients within the scope of practice.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and coordinate timely interventions to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, potential side effects, and supportive care resources.
  • Promote shared decision-making and deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Coordinate referrals, diagnostic services, and transitions of care across the healthcare system.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based oncology practice.
Qualifications
Required Education
  • Nurse Practitioner: Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Master's degree or higher.
Required Licensure & Certification
For Nurse Practitioners
  • Current Georgia APRN licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner through ANCC, AANP, or another nationally recognized certifying body.
For Physician Assistants
  • Current Georgia Physician Assistant license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
For All Candidates
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Oncology certification or oncology experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of all credentialing and privileging requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Medical Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, or a related specialty.
  • Strong clinical judgement and critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience managing patients in an ambulatory oncology setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education abilities.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality outcomes, and exceptional patient care.
