Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT). The Advanced Practice Provider will divide time 50/50 between HMCT services and provide direct patient care under physician supervision.

The ideal candidate holds NP or PA credentials, with inpatient oncology experience preferred, and demonstrates teamwork, communication, and clinical judgment.

Qualifications

  • NP: MSN or DNP required for adult care.
  • PA: ARC accredited Master’s or Doctoral PA program required.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Unrestricted RN license with NP authority or PA license.
  • Experience in hematology/oncology preferred; new grads welcome.
  • Strong teamwork and communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Job Summary<\/p>

The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians, collects and documents data, obtains/orders diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services. This position will split time between our two services 50/50.<\/p>

Job Duties & Responsibilities<\/p>

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.<\/li>
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.<\/li>
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.<\/li>
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.<\/li>
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records<\/li>
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.<\/li>
  • Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.<\/li>
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.<\/li>
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.<\/li>
  • Perform procedures including:
    • Bone Marrow Biopsies<\/li>
    • Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy<\/li>
    • Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy<\/li>
    • Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
    • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.<\/li>
    • Attend program required meetings.<\/li>
    • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.<\/li>
    • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.<\/li>
    • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.<\/li><\/ul>

      Job Eligibility Requirements<\/p>

      Education<\/p>

      NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care<\/p>

      PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program<\/p>

      Certification<\/p>

      NP: Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, etc.)<\/p>

      PA: PA-C<\/p>

      Both: BLS

      ACLS preferred<\/p>

      L icensure<\/p>

      NP: Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP<\/p>

      PA: Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA<\/p>

      Both: Federal and State DEA independent license with unrestricted prescriptive authority<\/p>

      Experience<\/p>

      APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology/Oncology, but recent or new grads graduating by December 2025 are welcome to apply.<\/p>

        Job Hours<\/p>

        Monday through Sunday includes Weekends and Holidays 12- hour day shift 7A-7P. 14 shifts per month<\/p>
