Job summary

Duke Blood Cancer Center in Durham, NC seeks a compassionate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy outpatient team.

Qualifications

  • NP: Master's in Nursing and accredited program.
  • PA: Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • Licensed in North Carolina upon hire.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order diagnostic imaging and tests to determine diagnoses and toxicities.
  • Formulate treatment plans with clinical judgment and appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress and maintain accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research and document toxicities and data.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff; see scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Perform procedures including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya access, punch biopsies.
  • Attend required meetings and maintain CME.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and patient confidentiality.

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy outpatient team to care for patients with Blood Cancers.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documenting toxicities and data collection.
  • Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in the education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Perform procedures including:
    • Bone Marrow Biopsies
    • Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
    • Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
    • Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
  • Nurse Practitioners: Workrequires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with aMaster's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
  • Physician Assistant Certification
  • Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed in the State of North Carolina
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
License
  • NP: Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP
  • PA: Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA
  • Both: DEA independent license with prescriptive authority
Experience
  • 1+ years of APPexperiencestronglypreferred.
