Summary:

Penn Medicine Washington Square practice is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider to join our general surgery team. Located at 8th and Walnut, just 2 blocks from Pennsylvania Hospital, the APP will support one primary surgical attending and two other attendings as needed. There are two other APPs and one RN in this practice, all working collaboratively with our Attendings. The APP will see general surgery and bariatric patients alongside the attending and also practice independently treating bariatric and general surgery patients, including new, post-op, and return visits.

Primary Shift:

8 am - 5 pm, Monday-Friday, with one remote day.

Qualifications:

• All CRNPs/PA-Cs function under the guidelines set by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and are credentialed through that body.
• Contribute to excellence in education, leadership, professional contribution, and practice.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct clinical care according to established protocols using evidence-based standards, in collaboration with the team.
• Maintain accurate, confidential medical records, documenting evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations in the EHR.
• Identify oneself properly to patients and families, clarifying the role of the nurse practitioner as needed.
• Function within scope and refer to the collaborating physician when outside of scope or as directed.
• Participate in performance improvement processes to meet quality standards.
• Demonstrate professional responsibility as a role model to peers and the healthcare team.
• Perform approved diagnostic or therapeutic procedures based on patient status.
• Address patient and family concerns, fostering a therapeutic relationship.
• Provide education, counseling, and instructions regarding diagnosis, treatments, medications, and prevention.
• Support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
• Precept NP students and other learners.
• Identify community resource needs and refer patients appropriately.

Credentials:

• BLS/CPR certification required.
• Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Pennsylvania CRNP/PA-C licensure and Prescriptive Authority required.
• Active Pennsylvania RN license required; RN licensure in PA and/or NJ required.

Education or Experience:

• Master of Science in Nursing or Health Sciences required.
• New graduates or over 2.5 years of experience accepted.
• Credential review and approval by the Credentials Committee and Medical Board required.
