Summary

• Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, functioning in the outpatient setting at Penn University City with a dual focus in General GI and IBD.
• Structured 6‑12 month onboarding and training, with mentorship from IBD‑focused APPs, physicians, and nursing staff.
• Primary clinical responsibilities at Penn University City and scheduled outpatient support at the Cherry Hill location to ensure continuity across satellite sites.
• Ideal for APPs seeking foundational and advanced subspecialty expertise in an academic GI practice with multidisciplinary, team‑based care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical care for patients following established protocols and evidence‑based standards in collaboration with the care team.
• Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Identify self to the patient and family, clarify the scope of the NP role, and refer to collaborating physicians when necessary.
• Perform interventions specific to the assigned patient population and collaborative agreement.
• Participate in performance improvement processes, quality of care, and service standards.
• Demonstrate professional responsibility as a role model for peers and team members.
• Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient status.
• Build therapeutic relationships: address patient and family concerns, provide support, education, counseling, and medication instruction.
• Support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
• Precept NP students and other health‑care learners.
• Identify and refer patient/family needs for community resources.

Credentials

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS/CPR) – Required
• Certified Nurse Practitioner / PA – Required (CRNP/NJ license)
• Prescriptive Authority – Required (NJ prescriptive authority)
• Registered Nurse – PA / NJ RN license – Required, with National Board Certification

Education or Equivalent Experience

• Master of Arts or Science – Required
• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or equivalent advanced master’s in nursing.
• New to practice or < 2.5 years of clinical experience; CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
