Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a PA-C or NP to join the Neurosurgery team at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. The role involves responding to inpatient consults for general neurosurgery and neurovascular care, performing rounds, and preparing patients for neurosurgical procedures.

You will collaborate with neurosurgeons and neurointerventional specialists, handle ER and hospital consults, and participate in a clinic day weekly.

Qualifications

• PA-C or NP with applicable certifications and DEA/BLS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute, critical, and chronic neurological conditions in inpatient settings.
• Obtain histories, perform physical exams, and develop differential diagnoses.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and treatments as appropriate.
• Coordinate care across multiple services, including pre-op planning and discharge.
• Document care plans and maintain records per established standards.
• Offer clinical guidance to nursing staff and ensure continuity of care.

What You’ll Do

• Respond to inpatient consults for the general and neurovascular services and respond to hyperacute strokes.
• Perform daily rounds, progress notes, and patient assessments.
• Prepare patients for neurosurgical and neurointerventional procedures (pre- and post-op).
• Manage ER and hospital consults; one clinic day per week.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary general and neurovascular teams.

Major Responsibilities

Qualifications

PA-C or NP (ANCC/AANP), DEA, BLS (may obtain within 6 months). For Nurse Practitioner candidates, both Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) certification and Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) certification are required.

Experience

New grads welcome; neuro experience preferred.

Physical & Working Conditions

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the day.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards; PPE required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with patient transfers.
