Matrix Providers is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner - NICU to join a dedicated team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. The PRN position offers 40+ hours per month with a compensation range of $76-80 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life coverage.

The role requires a Master's in nursing, an active RN license, and NCC Neonatal NP certification, plus NRP and PALS.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current RN license in good standing.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required.
  • Board-certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNC) NCC.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of NP services in a Level III NICU as directed by Pediatric staff.
  • Supervise and educate other staff; deliver evidence-based lectures and training.
  • Diagnose and treat neonates with acute and chronic conditions per protocols.
  • Promote preventive care and healthy family education.
  • Support transport coordination and consult with neonatology as needed.

Matrix Providers is hiring a Nurse Practitioner-NICU to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA.

  • Employment Status: PRN- Minimum of 40 hours per month.
  • Compensation: $76-80/hour
  • Schedule: Nurse Practitioner - NICU coverage shifts may be required for twenty-four (24), sixteen (16), twelve (12), and eight (8) hours. Specific days, hours, and shift length will be scheduled by the designated Government representative. The specific hours will be determined by the supervisor depending on patient volume and clinical scheduling needs

The Nurse Practitioner- NICU must have and meet the following:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree: Master's degree in nursing.
  • Education: Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Have successfully completed at least twelve (12) contact hours of continuing NNP education within the preceding twenty-four (24) months which maintains skills and knowledge as an NNP.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross Healthcare Provider Course. Possess and maintain current certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Possess and maintain a Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP) certification as recognized by the American Board of Pediatrics. Possess and maintain a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year full-time experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner within the preceding two (2) years. Possess a minimum of one (1) year broad experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Level 3 NICUs and experience in both the newborn nursery and delivery room setting within the last two (2) years.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Other Requirements: DEA registration number
Nurse Practitioner- NICU Core Job Duties:
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.
  • Provide comprehensive medical assessment, examination, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment plan for neonates, under the direction of a staff Pediatrician.
  • Provide medical management of critically ill neonates in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and other areas to include neonatal resuscitation, conventional ventilation, stabilize and maintain Level III care prior to transport, prescription of medications (including controlled substances), to treat neonatal medical disorders, under direction of a staff neonatologist.
  • Request and interpret laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, and radiographic procedures, and other tests as needed under the direction of staff Pediatricians.
  • Perform procedures including sedation, endotracheal intubation, routine phlebotomy, arterial phlebotomy, percutaneous central venous line placement, umbilical line placement, lumbar puncture, suprapubic bladder taps, bladder catheterization, needle thoracentesis, chest tube placement, circumcision as deemed appropriate under the Government supervision of the staff Pediatrician.
  • Attend routine and high-risk deliveries as a member of the Resuscitation Team and perform Neonatal Resuscitation.
  • Provide medical care to neonates awaiting transport to other facilities and from other higher level of care neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), under direction of a staff Pediatrician.
  • Provide outpatient care for routine well baby appointments and NICU follow-up appointments.
