Job description

  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
The Nurse Practitioner practices medicine in a clinic or hospital setting, under the direction and responsible supervision of a Licensed Physician (May be MD or DO). The hospitalist nurse practitioner works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of patients admitted to the hospital. Nurse practitioner orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physician. Nurse practitioner prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. NP may also coordinate referrals for specialty care or social service support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience: Experience working in an inpatient setting as an RN or NP

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed or eligible for licensure with the appropriate Minnesota State licensing agency. Certified or eligible for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national professional nursing organization as a CNP in Family Medicine. Maintenance of the continuing medical education requirements of a nursing national professional organization. Eligibility for registration as a Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin may be required. ACLS Certification with a designation of either ACLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or Military Training Network within 90 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Three (3) to five (5)years of experience working as an APC in an inpatient setting

Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The Nurse Practitioner role demands intelligence, sound judgement, intellectual honesty and the ability to relate effectively to people and the capacity to react to emergencies in a calm and reasoned manner. Able to work collaboratively with the supervising Physician. Well-developed listening and interviewing skills. Able to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative working relationships with other people. Able to effectively teach health promotion and disease prevention behaviors to patients and families. Demonstrated skills in independent decision making, management of minor acute illness and chronic health problems, and in performing medical history taking and routine physical examinations. Knowledge of the physiological, psychological, social and spiritual influences on the patients physical condition.

READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

WRITING - Advanced: Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
