Job summary

MEDIKO is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to deliver high-quality medical care to inmates in a correctional setting in Spokane, WA. You will assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care and compliance with regulations.

You will prescribe medications, perform procedures, and manage chronic conditions while maintaining accurate records and serving as a clinical leader.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid, unrestricted state license or credential to practice.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare, or related field preferred.
  • Graduate or professional NP program required for advanced roles.
  • Current DEA registration, if applicable.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty preferred.
  • 3–5 years of clinical practice; 1–2 years in correctional/underserved settings preferred.
  • Active CPR/BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality medical care to inmates in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, diagnose, and treat patients; prescribe medications and order tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans; ensure timely follow-through.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and HIPAA compliance.
  • Provide on-call services as needed and leadership to nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with medical and correctional teams to ensure seamless operations.

The Nurse Practitioner will provide high-quality medical care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and patient education. This role will collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care delivery and will prescribe medications, perform procedures, and manage chronic conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will also maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to inmates in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medication and ordering appropriate tests.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient medical information/history, upholding HIPAA regulations and medical ethics.

  • Promote good working relationships within the medical team and across other disciplines and departments to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards by consistently performing thorough and accurate clinical tasks.
  • Participate in medical activities that foster growth and development for both medical professionals and patient care.
  • Maintain professional standards and accountability for own conduct and appearance at all times.
  • Respect and adhere to the facility's safety, infection control, and operational policies, ensuring a safe and effective healthcare environment.
  • Accept staffing assignments and perform additional duties as required, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and enhance patient care delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What we Ask of YOU:
  • A current, valid, and unrestricted state license, certification, and/or credential authorizing practice in the applicable clinical role (e.g., MD, DO, DDS, DMD, NP, PA, RN, LPN, LMHP, etc.) is required.A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare, or a related field is preferred for applicable roles.
  • For advanced clinical roles, completion of an accredited graduate or professional program (e.g., medical school, dental school, nurse practitioner program, etc.) is required.
  • A current, valid DEA registration, if applicable.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred, if applicable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice, with at least 1-2 years in a correctional healthcare or underserved population setting preferred.
  • Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly preferred.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
