Job summary

MEDIKO is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our correctional healthcare team. This part-time role requires 1–3 years of clinical experience, a current NP license, and DEA registration. Hours are 20/week with shifts 11 AM–7 PM, 11 AM–9 PM, or weekend days, with some flexibility.

You will provide high-quality patient care, perform assessments, diagnose and treat inmates, and participate in care planning while maintaining HIPAA standards and collaborating across medical and correctional staff.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid state NP license required.
  • DEA registration required, if applicable.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical practice; corrections/underserved settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality medical care to inmates per policies and guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, diagnose, treat, prescribe medications, and order tests.
  • Show leadership to ensure excellence in patient care and outcomes.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and ensure timely follow-through.
  • Provide on-call services as needed and collaborate with correctional staff.

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to inmates in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medication and ordering appropriate tests.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient medical information/history, upholding HIPAA regulations and medical ethics.

  • Promote good working relationships within the medical team and across other disciplines and departments to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Approach changes positively, motivating the team to embrace improvements and accept constructive feedback to enhance the work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards by consistently performing thorough and accurate clinical tasks.
  • Participate in medical activities that foster growth and development for both medical professionals and patient care.
  • Maintain professional standards and accountability for own conduct and appearance at all times.
  • Respect and adhere to the facility's safety, infection control, and operational policies, ensuring a safe and effective healthcare environment.
  • Accept staffing assignments and perform additional duties as required, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and enhance patient care delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What we Ask of YOU:
  • A current, valid, and unrestricted state license
  • For advanced clinical roles, completion of an accredited graduate or professional program is required
  • A current, valid DEA registration, if applicable.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred, if applicable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice, with at least 1-2 years in a correctional healthcare or underserved population setting preferred.
  • Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly preferred.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
