Position Overview

The Department of Medicine is seeking a licensed Nurse Practitioner Fellow for a 12-month intensive training program. This program offers advanced didactic education and clinical experiences in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, including inpatient and outpatient rotations, and participation in subspecialty clinics such as inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic disease, motility disorders, nutrition, and transplant hepatology. The position is primarily based in Washington, DC, Bethesda, MD, with occasional travel to Columbia, MD.

Program Goals

The fellowship aims to transition nurse practitioners into gastroenterology, enhancing their knowledge and clinical skills to provide high-quality, specialty care. It addresses the provider shortage and promotes patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Responsibilities

1. Establish joint and primary practices for patient care and triage.
2. Manage and review complex patient cases, perform detailed interviews and physicals, and create care plans.
3. Educate patients and families about disease processes and outcomes.
4. Document in EPIC, communicate with providers, and make referrals.
5. Review test results, respond to patient inquiries, and manage prescriptions and prior authorizations.
6. Assist with procedural pre-authorizations and support team functions.

Teamwork and Customer Service

• Greet and assist patients, visitors, and colleagues courteously.
• Handle patient complaints effectively and support team members.

Technical Skills

• Operate computers and clinical software, complete required training, and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Nursing, RN license, and Nurse Practitioner certification.
• Successful certification and licensure in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
• Knowledge of relevant regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Gastroenterology clinical rotation during graduate studies.

Additional Details

Salary range: $48,000 - $84,100 annually, based on experience and qualifications. The position is full-time, hybrid, and located in the District of Columbia.
