About Us:

The Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat) Practice at Valley Children's provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for children from neonates through to 21 years of age. As the only dedicated pediatric head and neck surgery group in Central California, we provide management of all disease processes involving the head, neck and aerodigestive tract. Our team of board-certified, pediatric fellowship-trained head and neck surgeons performs about 4,900 operations a year and participates in lecturing, publishing and teaching. Most surgeries are outpatient, or day-surgery cases, reducing stress on the child and family. Beyond physicians, our team includes highly skilled pediatric nurses and psychosocial support staff, including social workers, interpreters, child life specialists and more to help patients and families.

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Practitioner who is accountable for a "defined" patient population. Functions in the roles of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, patient advocate, care coordinator and researcher within a specialized area of practice. Possesses and exhibits a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in the provision of health care directly to the patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. Provision of patient care is conducted and performed utilizing the medical model within the scope of licensure and in accordance with applicable law, regulations, and in accordance with VCH policies. Some positions will be responsible for being on call according to a predetermined schedule or as needed, pursuant to hospital needs. Upon acceptance of an offer of employment and prior to providing patient care, candidate must submit Scope of Practice and all information for credentialing, to the Medical Staff office, Hospital Interdisciplinary Professional Practice Council.

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse License - CA-BRN - California Board of Registered Nursing (required)
• NP - Nurse Practitioner License - CA-BRN - California Board of Registered Nursing Must successfully complete the credentialing process through the Medical Staff office via CIDP for the appropriate scope of practice, written standardized protocols, and furnishing privileges. (required)
• NP-C - Nurse Practitioner National Certification - NCC - National Certification Corporation National certification from an accredited certifying board. within six (6) months of hire or transfer into position (required)
• BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)

Work Experience

• Minimum one (1) year Related experience (required)
• Minimum five (5) years Increasingly responsible experience which demonstrates professional working knowledge of nursing theory and practice, with competence in physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute and chronic pediatric problems. (preferred)
