Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant) primarily at our Duke Women's Health Associates at Patterson Placelocation as well as the Duke Women's Health Associates Brier Creek location.

Post-partum hospital rounding will be at Duke University Hospital - 2301 Erwin Rd - Durham,NC.

If a Certified Nurse Midwife, position is clinic only. There is no hospital call - delivery component for this position.

The APP will work in collaboration with attending physicians and advanced practice providersproviding direct obstetrics and gynecology patient care, collecting and documenting data, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and performing consultations.

Job Hours

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday. Clinical and administrative sessions are generally 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.Insert

Post-partum hospital rounding at Duke University Hospital will be ~8:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

There is a possibility of weekend hours in the future withextended and alternative hours expected upon request/scheduling needs.

Obstetric and Postpartum Care

Will provide obstetric care to prenatal patients from the new obstetric visit throughout pregnancy and including the postpartum visit as follows:

  • Performance of the new obstetric exam with identification of problems complicating pregnancy or pre-existent to pregnancy.
  • Initiation of plan of care/diagnostic testing/interpretation of labs/treatment plan based on individual patient medical/surgical history.
  • Patient education relating to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care.
  • Performance of FHR assessment, NST interpretation, pelvic exams for antepartum and labor assessment and triage patients.

Gynecological Care

Will be responsible for management of gynecological patients for routine care and/or treatment of common gynecological problems including but not limited to:

  • All methods of family planning and counseling for reproductive life planning
  • Routine Well Woman Exams and Pap Smears
  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • Treatment for symptoms of Menopause/perimenopause
  • Postmenopausal bleeding
  • Breast changes or masses
  • Pelvic/abdominal pain
  • Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
  • Routine Postoperative follow up and problem visits

Inpatient Rounding and Postnatal Care

Will assist attending physician(s) in the inpatient setting (including, but not limited to):

  • Rounding on postpartum patients
  • Participate in the care of those inpatient by reviewing and assessing patient’s status, assist in patient’s care plan, writing orders, discussing test results, etc.
  • Provide education on breastfeeding, postpartum care, maternal aftercare, and complications post delivery
  • Prepare and discharge patients in a timely manner
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, clinic staff and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
  • Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled, diagnostic and therapeutic services to the patient and/or their family.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

  • BLS required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA licensure required.

Experience

  • Prefer 1+ years of work experience as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant (APP) with Women's Health patients
  • APP student with women's health clinical rotations
  • RN caring for women’s health patients
