Qualifications

  • BSN or higher required; MS degree in nursing preferred
  • Nurse Practitioner program graduate with specialty certification or PA training with appropriate RI licensure
  • Current NP with prescriptive privileges or PA license in RI
  • BLS and ACLS certification required

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload in acute in-hospital cardiology care
  • Lead development and evaluation of standards, policies and care paths
  • Oversee care coordination from ED triage through discharge planning
  • Collaborate with the care team to meet agreed healthcare goals
  • Provide direct patient care in collaboration with Cardiologist
  • Perform advanced practice skills under Medical Director supervision
  • Participate in education, clinical research and mentoring
  • Facilitate patient/family education in their area of expertise
  • Occasional rotation to Cardiology Procedural Care or Advanced Heart Failure units

Job description

SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible to the Medical Director of Cardiology and responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum, primarily for acute, in hospital care. Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates a fundamental medical knowledge base with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area (cardiology).Able to manage a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care.
  • Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
  • Oversee care coordination in the acute care setting, including identifying the need for admission via triage from the Emergency Department, inpatient care, and discharge planning.
  • Partner with the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement.
  • Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.
  • Provides direct care to patients in the acute care setting in collaboration with the Cardiologist.
  • Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
  • Participates in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.
  • Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
  • Position may include rotation to the Cardiology Procedural Care Unit and/or Advanced Heart Failure service.
  • Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS.
  • Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Baccalaureate in nursing, or equivalent. At least a Master of Science Degree in the field of nursing. Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required. Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges in the State of Rhode Island. OR Bachelor’s Degree and two years of graduate study in an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current registration as Physician Assistant in the State of Rhode Island. Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner. OR1-2 years experience as a Physician Assistant. Experience in cardiology preferred. Experience with EPIC a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

Pay Range:

$61.30-$77.78
