Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Cardiology Department to provide quality service for cardiac procedures. The NP will evaluate and treat cardiac patients and assist in growing the Cardiology services.

Applicants must have a Master’s in Nursing, be a licensed Nurse Practitioner in New York, and hold national board certification in their specialty. This part-time position requires strong clinical skills and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Job description

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiology Department provides quality service by performing a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the admission of patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, stress tests, echos, and chest pain observation. The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunction with the Cardiologist to provide consultation to in‑patients. The processes of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow‑up, and outcome evaluation are utilized. The nurse practitioner is an independent health‑care provider who will work closely in collaboration with the Medical Director of Cardiology and physicians of the Cardiology Department.

Responsibilities

• The Cardiology NP will deliver quality care in preparing cardiology patients for invasive cardiac procedures (cardiac cath/EP), echo, and stress testing, evaluating and treating cardiac patients, obtaining consents, and following patients post cardiac catheterization as well as admitting and discharging patients from the cardiology service.
• The NP will assist in growing the Cardiology line of services at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Master’s in Nursing Degree and completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program, required.
• New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.
• Nurse Practitioner National Board Certification in specialty area, required.
• Completion of a pharmacology component of at least three (3) semester hours or equivalent, and instruction in NYS laws relating to prescription and record keeping (3‑hour course).
• Previous experience relevant to the area of cardiology and prescriptive privileges in NYS.
• Current BLS/ACLS/PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association, required.

Travel Requirements

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Pre‑employment Requirements

• Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
• Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range

Starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
