Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) invites applications for a Nurse Practitioner, L3 to join one of its Sexual Health clinics in NYC. The role involves comprehensive patient care for STI and HIV, including PrEP/PEP, contraception, vaccinations, and telemedicine duties.

You will work under the Physician In Charge, obtain histories, perform exams, order tests, and coordinate referrals while maintaining Bureau productivity standards.

Qualifications

• Valid New York State license and current RN registration.
• Completion of an NP program or current NP certification.
• Certificate to prescribe medication by NYSED and 1 year NP experience for Assignment Level II.
• Certificate to prescribe medication by NYSED and 2 years NP experience for Assignment Level III.

Responsibilities

• Provide treatment for STIs and HIV, including PEP/PrEP.

Job description

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. To achieve this the Bureau provides direct clinic services to people seeking sexual health care, and services to sex partners; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research, and develop policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections operates 8 Sexual Health clinics throughout New York City (NYC).

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics is seeking to hire a Nurse Practitioner, L3. This person will be assigned to one of the Bureau's clinic and report directly to the Physician In Charge and will assist patients who are seeking medical services.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To

Obtain medical and sexual history. Conduct physical examinations. Order relevant stat and microbiologic testing. Make presumptive diagnoses of STIs. Provide treatment for patients with STIs and HIV. Provide Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. Provide all forms of contraception, possibly including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). Provide medication abortion services if interested Provide vaccination for Hepatitis A and B, Meningitis, and HPV. Arrange referrals to clinics for other services as needed. Provide health education to patients. Rotate on the telemedicine service. Work closely with PrEP navigators, mental health specialists, and HIV case managers to provide comprehensive psychosocial and behavioral care. Adhere to Bureau Standards for productivity. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Commissioner and the Medical Directors.

Minimum Qualifications

• A valid New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and
• Completion of a Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program registered or approved by the New York State Education Department, or current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department.
• To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, a certificate to prescribe medication issued by the New York State Education Department and one year of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.
• To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, a certificate to prescribe medication issued by the New York State Education Department and two years of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.
