Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Public Health Adviser to join the Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections. You will support clinical operations, assist in triage, registration, and specimen handling across eight NYC clinics.

The role requires a health education or related background with civil service eligibility; residency within NYC is expected. You will contribute to protecting New Yorkers' health and equity through collaborative public health

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a degree with health education/related sciences or equivalent with health promotion experience.
• Experience documenting intake in EMR and handling lab/phlebotomy duties is preferred.
• Residency in NYC or within commuting distance is often required for City employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical duties to aid in registration and intake documentation in EMR.
• Prepare examination rooms and assist vaccine administration.
• Process specimens for STI/Monkey Pox testing and route to appropriate area.
• Recall clinic patients with reactive results via text, phone, and email.
• Recall patients for missed appointments and reschedule as needed.
• Collect fingerstick specimens and phlebotomy as needed.

Division/Program Summary

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. To achieve this the Bureau provides direct clinic services to people seeking sexual health care, and services to sex partners; monitor disease trends; provide education and training to providers and community groups, conduct research, and develop policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections operates 8 Sexual Health clinics throughout New York City (NYC). The Public Health Advisor will be assigned to one of the Bureau's clinics and report directly to the Clinic Manager.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform clerical duties to aide in registration, documenting intake information collected at triage in the Electronic Medical record.
• Prepare examination rooms for vaccine administration.
• Process specimens for pick-up for infections related to STIs and Monkey Pox and route to the appropriate area.
• Recall clinic patients with reactive results via text, phone and email.
• Recall patients for missed appointments and reschedule (as needed).
• Collect fingerstick specimens and phlebotomy as needed.

PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISER - 51191

Minimum Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting field investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data; or
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or
• Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either twelve semester credits as described in "1" above or six months of experience as described in "2" above.

Additional Requirements

• To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed above, at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience as described in Qualification Requirement "2" above.
