About Backus Hospital: For over 125 years, Backus Hospital has served Eastern Connecticut, featuring the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and the only hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We aim to deliver high-quality healthcare to improve community health.
Role Scope: We seek a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant nocturnist to care for patients in the Medical ICU (MICU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The APP will be a key member of the care team, including hospitalist physicians, PCCM physicians, nursing, and respiratory therapy. Responsibilities include direct patient care, documentation, interpreting labs and imaging, bedside rounds, ICU procedures (central lines, arterial lines), and collaborating with intensivists and hospitalists. The APP will manage ICU admissions, facilitate early PCCM consultations, coordinate patient transfers, perform bedside rounds on PCU patients, and respond to rapid response and code situations.
Schedule: Approximately 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week (7 PM - 7 AM), including one weekend per month.

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited PA/Nurse Practitioner Master's program; licensed or eligible for licensure in Connecticut; certification or eligibility for certification as a PA or APRN; preferably one year of inpatient or ICU experience, but new graduates with relevant clinical experience may be considered; strong clinical and communication skills; ability to adapt and work well in a team.
