Nurse Practitioner Overview

The Nurse Practitioner provides high quality, patient-focused health care services to all patients in collaboration with the other staff members to ensure that the individually planned needs and desires of patients are met, regardless of age or gender, on a continuing basis by performing the duties outlined below.

Responsibilities

• Practice/perform medical services as delegated or directed by the supervising physician within the scope of RN/APRN practice.
• Abide by nursing and advanced practice standards and laws set by the state board and professional occupational standards.
• Maintain supervisory requirements, define the relationship with the supervising physician, and establish a process for evaluation.
• Keep current with required continuing education and licensure.
• Maintain appropriate clinical standards and follow company policy and procedure manuals.
• Examine patients for symptoms and/or physical information while ensuring high-quality, patient-focused care and respecting patient rights.
• Assist patients in understanding and participating in medical decisions and initiate individualized patient education plans.
• Elicit and review information about the patient’s medical history.
• Order or execute various tests, analyses, results, reports, and diagnostic images to provide timely information for treatment decisions and follow-up.
• Administer or prescribe treatments and medications appropriate for patient condition.
• Promote health through educational instruction and advice on diet, hygiene, and disease prevention.
• Refer patients to medical specialists for consultant services when necessary for patient well‑being.
• Document necessary data accurately, efficiently, and completely to facilitate billing processes.
• Ensure all entries in the medical record are legible, complete, dated, timed, and signed with appropriate credentials.
• Use all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources of the company prudently and efficiently.
• Participate in department quality improvement activities, staff educational programs, and departmental meetings; maintain clinical competency as per company guidelines.
• Participate in Peer Review and Chart Audit processes as designated by the Medical Director.
• Maintain supervisory duties over staff as required and collaborate with the physician on issues outside the nurse practitioner’s scope.
• Maintain competency in skills relevant to the scope of services provided; obtain additional certifications or licensure as needed (e.g., DOT Certification, Occupational Medicine Certification, Dispensing Permits, Telemedicine permits).

• State Registered Nursing License; State Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License; Collaboration Agreement; CDI Controlled Substance License as applicable per prescriptive authority; DEA Drug Enforcement Agency Registration Number as applicable per prescriptive authority. Active medical board certification required per state requirements.
