Job description

Responsibilities

Responsible for performing patient evaluations, reviewing pretreatment teaching, recommending therapeutic interventions, counseling patients and families, and collaborating with appropriate physicians to provide other direct care interventions within the scope of practice for physician assistants in collaboration with the Thoracic Disease Program Director. Primary point of contact and assumes responsibilities for managing patient care.

  1. Takes first call after hours and on weekends for all patients on service (ICU/Floor/Tele and after hours for clinic answering service).
  2. Minimum of one day per week on-call after 5 pm.
  3. One weekend call per month, including patient rounding or other care needs such as admissions/discharges, from 5 pm Friday to 8 am Monday.
  4. Complete and submit call coverage documentation by the 20th day of the month prior to the call period.
  5. Perform and document admissions, discharges, history/physicals, and progress notes as necessary.
  6. Participate in multidisciplinary rounding with physicians and coordinators daily, 1-2 times per day.
  7. Coordinate care with care management, facilitating transfers and discharges.
  8. Provide care for scheduled lung transplant (pre/post) patients in the clinic.
  9. Coordinate lung transplant clinic operations with transplant RNs and staff.
  10. Participate in department reviews and academic activities, including meetings and conferences.
  11. Participate in patient education and counseling.
  12. Ensure compliance with billing, documentation, and other standards.
  13. Precept, mentor, and educate new clinic and hospital staff (e.g., Boot Camps).
  14. Participate in outreach activities for program growth.
  15. Engage in transplant quality initiatives and workgroups/councils.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned by Medical Director or management.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Master's in nursing from an accredited program for Nurse Practitioners.
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience in a related area or specialty.
  • Licenses and certifications:
    • Compact state or Arizona RN license.
    • Arizona Advanced Practice Nurse license.
    • National certification as a nurse practitioner in the specialty area (e.g., CT NP-AACN, AANP, ANCC, or PNCB).
    • DEA registration.
    • American Heart Association ACLS certification.
    • American Heart Association BLS certification.
