Job summary

Southern Neurosurgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our neurosurgery team. You will work closely with lead surgeons across clinic, hospital, and operating room settings, delivering comprehensive patient care from initial evaluation through postoperative follow-up.

The ideal candidate holds an NP graduate degree with current state licensure, BCLS, and DEA. Neurology/neurosurgery experience or training as a first assistant is preferred, with a Monday–Friday schedule and opportunities to

Qualifications

• Graduate NP program completed and current state NP licensure.
• BCLS certification active.
• Active DEA license.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical environments.
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans with ongoing follow-up.
• Assist neurosurgeons as first assist during procedures.
• Manage inpatient rounding, postoperative care, and hospital consultations.
• Complete patient histories and physical examinations.
• Order and review CT, MRI, X-ray, and other diagnostics.
• Perform bedside and clinical procedures including wound care and drain management.
• Prescribe medications within guidelines and coordinate care with physicians.
• Maintain accurate medical records and participate in after-hours call.

Nurse Practitioner - Neurosurgery
Full-Time | $125,000-$170,000/year | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Location: Gainesville, GA 30501

Southern Neurosurgery provides specialized care for patients with conditions involving the brain, spine, and nervous system. We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner who is ready to work closely with experienced neurosurgeons and play an active role in patient care across the clinic, hospital, and operating room.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing follow-up
• Assist neurosurgeons during surgical procedures as a first assist
• Manage inpatient rounding, post-operative care, and hospital consultations
• Complete patient histories and physical examinations
• Order and review CT, MRI, X-ray, and other diagnostic studies
• Perform appropriate bedside and clinical procedures, including wound care, drain management, and suture/staple removal
• Prescribe medications within applicable guidelines
• Coordinate patient care and communicate findings with physicians and other healthcare professionals
• Maintain thorough and accurate medical records
• Participate in a rotating after-hours call schedule

What You Bring

Required:

• Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Current state NP licensure
• Current BCLS certification
• Active DEA license
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work comfortably in clinic, hospital, and OR settings
• Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical environments

Preferred:

• Neurosurgery, spine, orthopedic, surgical, or inpatient experience
• Previous first-assist experience or certification
• ACLS certification
• CNOR, CSFA, or similar surgical certification
• Candidates with relevant surgical or inpatient experience who are new to neurosurgery may be considered for training.
