Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provides comprehensive primary care services to patients in an ambulatory clinical setting, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, management, and follow-up of acute and chronic health conditions within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice and specialty.
  • Performs comprehensive and focused physical examinations, obtains and evaluates patient histories, and assesses physical and psychosocial health needs.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care plans based on clinical findings, patient needs, evidence-based practice, and established clinical protocols.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory studies; identifies abnormal findings and initiates appropriate follow-up, treatment, or referral.
  • Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and clinical practice standards.
  • Provides preventive health services, health screenings, patient education, counseling, and health promotion related to disease prevention, wellness, lifestyle modification, and management of chronic conditions.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, procedures, self-management, and appropriate use of health care resources.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and appropriately initiates interventions, consultation, referral, or escalation of care when clinically indicated.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, pharmacists, behavioral health professionals, students, residents, and other members of the health care team to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and complete medical records and clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and professional standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, population health, and other clinical initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and the delivery of care.
  • May participate in clinical teaching and precepting of medical, nursing, and other health professions students, residents, and trainees.
  • May participate in educational programs, community outreach, health promotion activities, and special clinical programs conducted within or outside of the normal clinic schedule.
  • May provide services at outreach clinics, satellite locations, community-based settings, or through home visits as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, caregivers, health care professionals, students, and external providers while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Participates in department, clinic, and university activities and performs other duties as assigned in support of TTUHSC's clinical, educational, research, and community service missions.
  • Work is performed in an ambulatory clinical environment and requires frequent interaction with patients, families, health care professionals, students, trainees, and members of the community.
Required Qualifications

Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.
