Job summary

Avon Old Farms School seeks a part-time Staff Registered Nurse to deliver health services for students during school hours. Responsibilities include illness/injury care, medication administration, and documenting visits in Magnus and Veracross.

The role requires on-call coverage, with midweek and weekend shifts as needed throughout the school year. The nurse will coordinate with the DON, Assistant DON, and Medical Director to ensure timely, appropriate care on campus, while maintaining infection

Qualifications

• Licensed registered nurse in good standing.
• 2+ years nursing experience preferred.
• Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts.
• Able to arrive on campus within 30 minutes of a call during on-call hours.

Responsibilities

• Assess and treat students for illnesses and injuries.
• Test and care for students with communicable diseases per policy.
• Follow infection control protocols including PPE, sanitizing, and disinfecting.
• Administer medications as ordered and chart visits in Magnus and Veracross.
• Communicate with faculty, administration, and parents about student health.
• Maintain Health Center facilities and equipment, including kitchen, laundry, and infirmary beds.
• Review policies and procedures before each school year and follow nursing protocols.
• Attend staff meetings and maintain licensure and certifications.
• Work midweek and weekend hours with office/on-call shifts; may provide off-campus medical transport when needed.

Reports To: Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing

Hours - Days, Evenings and some weekends and on-call. 10-20 hours

Job Summary:

Primary responsibilities include treating students for illness and injuries during Health Center hours. Works closely with the Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, and Medical Director to ensure care for students is properly administered and coordinated. This position works during the school year when students are on campus.

• Assessing and treating students for injuries/illness. When on call, nurses are required to report to the Health Center to assess students as needed.
• Testing and caring for students with communicable diseases such as COVID-19, flu and other illnesses outlined in the Communicable Disease Policy.
• Strict adherence to the Health Center and school’s infection control management plan that includes, but is not limited to, use of PPE, sanitizing and disinfecting per the school’s policies.
• Administration of daily, controlled and non-controlled, medication that is dispensed in the Health Center.
• Appropriately charting student’s visits to Health Center in Magnus and Veracross.
• Communicating with faculty/administration and parents as needed regarding the health and well-being of students.
• Maintenance of the Health Center’s kitchen, laundry and infirmary beds.
• Review the P olicy and P rocedures manual prior to the start of each school year.
• Follow nursing protocols as outlined in the Policy and P rocedures manual.
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled by the DON.
• Maintain appropriate licensure and certifications.
• Includes midweek and weekend hours, with a combo of office/on-call shifts.
• In some instances, a nurse may need to provide medical transport off campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years previous nursing experience.
• Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing preferred.
• Flexible work schedule, including weekends, evenings and overnight on-call shifts.
• Able to get to campus within 3 0 minutes of a call during on-call hours.
