Overview:

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive range of services including a heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic services. The hospital features a pioneering minimally invasive joint replacement program and operates over 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers across Wayne and Oakland Counties. It is one of ten hospitals nationwide awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to set standards in cardiac care.

Position Summary:

The Nurse-Midwife reports to the Director of Nurse-Midwifery Services and provides prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and well-women gynecological care to patients at clinics and labor and delivery units staffed by Hutzel Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform nurse-midwifery duties on a 24-hour basis, including prenatal and postnatal visits, family planning, attending labor and delivery, consulting with physicians, and making rounds to patients.
  2. Assist in planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating, and revising services within the nurse-midwifery department.
  3. Delegate healthcare tasks to appropriate healthcare professionals such as staff nurses, residents, and students.
  4. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, social workers, dieticians, and nursing staff to develop patient-centered care plans.
  5. Consult with supervisors, physicians, and nursing staff regarding maternity care.
  6. Participate in educational program planning, implementation, and evaluation for families, staff, and community groups focused on family-centered maternity care.
  7. Design care plans and family planning strategies tailored to individual patient needs.
  8. Engage in clinical research to enhance service quality for childbearing families.
  9. Stay informed on current trends and issues in women's and infant's healthcare through seminars, meetings, and conferences.
  10. Promote nurse-midwifery philosophy through publications, speaking engagements, and committee participation.
  11. Educate medical, nursing, and midwifery students on the normal labor and birth process.
  12. Collaborate with colleagues to advance nurse-midwifery and family-centered maternity care services.

Qualifications:

  1. Certification from the American College of Midwives.
  2. Master's degree in Maternal Child Nursing, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
  3. Licensed Registered Nurse and Nurse Midwife in Michigan.
  4. One to two years of midwifery or related clinical experience with a focus on family-centered care is highly desirable.
