Job summary

University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is seeking an experienced Nursing Department Manager to lead the Operating Room team and drive excellence across surgical services. You will provide departmental leadership for patient care, interpret hospital mission, and coordinate care models to ensure safe, cost-effective outcomes.

Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of progressive nursing leadership, MD or compact RN licensure, and BSN.

Qualifications

  • RN license in MD or Compact eligibility per MBON
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • BSN is required
  • 3–5 years of progressive nursing leadership/management experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards, budgeting, operations, staffing, and quality outcomes
  • Prior perioperative/surgical leadership experience required
  • CNOR or related perioperative certification preferred
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply

Join a High-Performing Surgical TeamUniversity of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is seeking an experienced Nursing Department Manager to lead our Operating Room team and drive excellence across surgical services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides departmental leadership for the operation of selected patient care departments within the Division to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Supports and interprets the mission, vision, values, philosophy, objectives, and standards of the hospital and nursing department. Directs and coordinates implementation of patient care activities and nursing programs that promote attainment of the same.
  • In collaboration with nursing leadership, designs appropriate models of care and practice for assigned administrative units. Assures the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of patient care to achieve cost-effective outcomes.
  • Forecasts trends, functions as a change agent, analyzes current status, and improves existing systems.
  • Coordinates with other departments to prepare and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment in patient care areas. Monitors safety practices, ensuring environmental and equipment safety and adherence to infection control standards.
  • Incorporates and assists staff in incorporating current research findings into clinical practice, care delivery, and management systems.
  • Participates in the overall planning process for nursing services. Operationalizes and implements strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland or Compact eligibility in accordance with MBON, required.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership and management experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory standards, healthcare operations, leadership principles, budgeting, fiscal management, clinical operations, staffing, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and employee performance management required.
  • Prior perioperative, surgical services, or Operating Room leadership experience required.
  • Specialty certification (CNOR or related perioperative certification) preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION

Pay Range: $54.42 - $81.64 per hour.
