Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care's Department of Nursing seeks a Nurse Manager for the Medicine Specialty Unit (6RC) to provide clinical and administrative leadership on a 100% day schedule. The role oversees staffing, budgeting, and care coordination in a dynamic inpatient unit, working within a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.

The position requires a nursing license in Iowa, 3+ years of leadership experience, and a Master’s or Doctorate in nursing or healthcare.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing required.
• 3+ years of nursing leadership and management experience.
• Current Iowa nursing license.
• Experience in intermediate or critical care; 3-5 years preferred.
• Certification in a nursing specialty; if not certified, pursue when eligible.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in computer software applications.

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop and manage staff performance in perioperative setting; manage talent and leave policies.
• Prepare and monitor unit budget; analyze variances and suggest corrective actions.
• Provide leadership to ensure efficient systems and high-quality patient outcomes.
• Allocate resources to meet quality/productivity goals; review patient satisfaction data.
• Coordinate care within multidisciplinary teams to maximize patient satisfaction and continuity of care.
• Develop action plans aligned with health care strategic goals and report progress to leadership.
• Support education of health care students and mentor staff on complex patient care issues.
• Encourage evidence-based practice and multidisciplinary problem solving to improve care.
