Job summary

The University of Iowa is seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager for the Medicine Specialty Unit (6RC) at UI Health Care in Iowa City. This full-time leadership role interfaces with administrative and clinical staff to enhance care delivery and unit operations.

Applicants should possess nursing leadership experience, Iowa licensure, and a strong capability in team collaboration, education, and quality improvement. On-campus schedule with full benefits is offered.

Qualifications

• A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
• 1+ years of nursing experience with demonstrated skills in leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency with computer software applications. Skill in leadership/management.
• Demonstrates time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail and thoroughness.
• Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments.
• Demonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient education.
• Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements for the patient population.
• Assists in development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care for a patient population.
• Monitors patient care and discharge planning activities carried out by unit staff nurses.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members and implements care planning activities for specific group of patients.
• Serves as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient care.
• Serves as a resource for patient care problems.
• Adheres to department policies, procedures, protocols and practice guidelines to maintain a safe environment.
• Collaborates with Nurse Manager to implement division and unit strategic plans.
• Implements planned changes to optimize unit functioning.
• Participates in monitoring staff competency.
• Provides constructive feedback and support to staff nurses and nursing assistants.
• Coordinates and participates in Quality Management programs and committees.
• Uses nursing research to improve clinical practice.
• Participates in development of research-based standards and education activities.
