POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, coordinates and supervises personnel providing care to the patients and all components of the treatment program. This position assumes a twenty-four hour responsibility.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Organizes, directs, and controls staffing schedules, daily assignments, acuity reports, and the safe and efficient use of resources. Assigns duties based on staff competency and patient acuity. Allocates resources and monitors expenses. Participates in budget development under the direction and guidance of hospital administration.
  2. Provides direct nursing care in conformance with accepted standards of nursing care practice. Provides guidance, training, and monitoring of Master Treatment Plan development and updates.
  3. Uses clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Completes routine and unexpected job assignments within the agreed timeframe. Provides intercommunication between unit, department, and hospital staff.
  4. Assists in the evaluation, monitoring, and development of quality patient care activity schedules. Encourages family involvement. Attends Program Evaluation Meetings. Participates in Nursing Leadership, Performance Improvement, and other hospital committees. Coordinates care delivery with hospital departments. Contributes to the ongoing development of quality treatment.
  5. Participates in developing and maintaining unit, departmental, and hospital standards of excellence through problem solving, employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, committee involvement, and self-growth. Participates in the hospital Service Excellence Program.
  6. Reviews and/or completes incident reports, Infection Control Reports, Patient Advocate Reports, Sentinel Events, and employee Performance Appraisals to assess quality. Maintains patient rights and hospital policies. Ensures proper signing of patient/family forms. Supports educational offerings. Organizes thorough orientations. Ensures staff have necessary resources. Participates in policy and procedure review and development.
  7. Collaborates with A&R staff to ensure a timely admission process.
  8. Assumes the responsibility of DON effectively in their absence. Accepts additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
  9. Adheres to all safety policies and safe work practices. Attends hospital safety trainings. Reviews safety policies annually to ensure compliance. Reviews injury data and implements corrective actions. Sets safety goals annually and reviews progress every six months. Maintains updated job descriptions, performance evaluations, orientation checklists, and competencies. Reports accidents immediately and ensures corrective actions. Ensures departmental safe work practices.
