Job summary

Kids for the Future is seeking a part-time Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our crisis-focused team in California. The position runs 16 hours per week, on Saturdays and Sundays, from midnight to 8:00 am, on-site at our programs.

Description

Hours : 16 hours per week; Saturday and Sunday, Midnight to 8:00 am. This is an on-site position and requires in-person attendance to perform the essential functions of the job.

As a Nurse – LVN, you will be part of a team that assesses client’s mental and physical health and develops treatment plans.

  • Consult with psychiatrist and other health professionals as well as manage medications.
  • Coordinate care with outside providers to assist in a long-term plan for obtaining medications and maintain care in the community for both mental and physical health.
  • Safely store and handle medications and ensure the proper documentation is completed.
  • Provide medication support services, which ensure optimal outcomes for your clients.

Our Crisis Centers are Short Term Acute Residential Treatment (START) programs (Del Sur Crisis Center, Esperanza Crisis Center , Halcyon Crisis Center, Hawthorne Crisis Center, Jary Barreto Crisis Center, New Vistas Crisis Center, and Turning Point Crisis Center that provide intensive, community-based crisis residential services for adults throughout San Diego County. They deliver a unique alternative to psychiatric hospitalization to clients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis of such magnitude so as not to be manageable on an outpatient basis. Their services are provided in a home-like environment that specializes in the psychosocial rehabilitation of each individual.

Licensure

Current California LVN/LPT license required and must be kept current and in good standing during employment

Certification

BLS certification required and must be kept current throughout employment

Credentialing

Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous experience working with a mental health population, especially with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders is strongly preferred
  • Ability to physically and mentally assist in emergency situations is required
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is essential
  • Ability to pass criminal/background clearance
Summary

Under the direction of the Nurse Coordinator delivers behavioral health nursing care. Ensures health care needs of clients are addressed using the nursing process and according to CRF Policies and Procedures. Assists clients in accessing community medical and psychiatric resources to achieve optimal level of health and functioning in the community.

Residential programs are required to be operational 24 hours a day, 365 days per year including all CRF recognized holidays. Given this requirement, employees are expected to work on all CRF recognized holidays depending on staffing needs.
