Job summary

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Lawrenceburg is seeking a Nurse Intern to support clinical teams during a 300-hour program. The role is PRN and requires flexible scheduling to meet academic commitments and patient care needs.

As a Nurse Intern, you will work under RN supervision, gain hands-on clinical experience in an acute care environment, and participate in ongoing learning and competency validation to support patient care and quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary patient care team to support safe, high-quality patient care.
• Provide direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions and observations to the supervising RN.
• Document patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and ambulation.
• Assist with patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and other patient care activities as appropriate.
• Provide patient and family education based on age, culture, developmental level, and identified learning needs.
• Advocate for the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of patients.
• Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and critical thinking while functioning within the Nurse Extern scope of practice.
• Participate in departmental performance improvement, safety, and quality initiatives.
• Assist with orientation and training activities as assigned.
• Participate in required meetings, educational programs, and competency validations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

Applicants should be a third‑year nursing student or higher and be enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing. Additional requirements include:

• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with independently with appropriate supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑stress clinical environment.
• Experience: One-year previous experience preferred.
• Licenses: Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license.
• Education: Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.

STRHS-Lawrenceburg, formerly Crockett Hospital, is a 99‑bed, acute care facility located in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, 85 miles south of Nashville.

We expanded the facility and services in 1991 with the addition of an Outpatient Surgery Unit, a state‑of‑the‑art 24‑hour physician‑staffed Emergency Department, and an Intensive Care Unit. The hospital opened a 10‑bed Physical Rehabilitation Unit in 1997, and a Women's Health Center in 1999. Diagnostic imaging services include in‑house MRI, Nuclear Medicine, CT, X‑ray, Digital Mammography and Ultrasound. The Rehabilitation Unit provides Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies. In 2009, a $5.6 million construction was completed which expanded the Emergency Department, Outpatient Surgery Unit and Registration area.
