• Administers medications to inmates regularly.
• Evaluates new intakes for jail placements, including assessing vital signs, injuries, levels of intoxication, and/or mental health concerns.
• Conducts inmate physicals as required by the Michigan Department of Corrections.
• Maintains medical inventory and supplies; manages and secures resident medications; plans medication distribution schedule; maintains medication documentation; and monitors patients’ medication responses.
• Collaborates with contracted medical providers, local pharmacies, and community mental health providers to ensure coordination of client care.
• Assists in creating and updating jail protocol and policies related to medical needs.
• Performs related work as required.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to provide medical and nursing services to inmates within the Kalamazoo County Jail. Delivers care to inmates utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and implementation following established medical protocols. Collaborates with community mental health, contracted physicians, local hospitals, and pharmacies to ensure effective patient treatment and care.
