Henrico Doctors' Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN for the Transitional Cardiac Unit to gain hands-on experience while supporting the nursing team in delivering safe, compassionate care. You’ll assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, document care, and learn under a nurse preceptor, advancing toward RN responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

No travel or prior experience required; enrollment in an RN program with Nursing Fundamentals completed is required within

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Must be currently enrolled in an RN program with completed Nursing Fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan
