Corpus Christi Medical Center, part of the HCA Healthcare family, is seeking a Nurse Extern for PRN shifts. You are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and will support the nursing staff under RN supervision, performing delegated basic care tasks.

Ideal candidates have at least 6 months before graduation, completed Fundamentals of Nursing, and will obtain BLS within 30 days of starting. Typical duties include patient care and maintaining a safe care environment.

• Ideally at least 6 months remaining prior to graduation.
• Completion of Fundamentals or Foundations of Nursing course required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS/CPR) must be obtained within 30 days of start date.
• Be able to work 24 productive hours in a month.

Position Summary

The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the Department and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing in an Associates or Bachelor Degree Program
• Ideally at least 6 months remaining prior to graduation
• Completion of Fundamentals or Foundations of Nursing course required
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Be able to work 24 productive hours in a month

Program specifics:

• Nurse externs operate out of a float pool
• Float pool assignment is based off need
• Can work more than 24 productive hours – if schedule allows
