The Summer Nurse Externship is a 10-week program designed for nursing students entering their final year. The program begins with a two-week orientation including both classroom and clinical components, in which the nurse extern performs basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. The Nurse Extern is assigned to a Registered Nurse throughout the Externship to perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. Nurse Externs partner with an RN to learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills, and learn and demonstrate routine basic care skills (bathing, safety, and hygiene activities). This is for a nursing student entering their final year of an accredited nursing program.
Nurses in the 18 bed mixed-acuity unit care for patients undergoing treatment in general pediatrics with a specialty focus on diabetes management, seasonal respiratory disease processes, pediatric pulmonology, pediatric cardiology, neurology and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery.
