Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to support individualized patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The role emphasizes teamwork and completing designated clinical procedures and supportive tasks to advance patient wellness.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to obtain BLS within one month of hire, and complete a 175-hour training program within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D, CNA/CPTC or enrolled in Mercy's UAP training program, or a current Mercy coworker.
• BLS certification within one month of hire.
• PCA position requires completion of mandatory orientation and 90-day training period.
• No prior experience required.
• Minimum physical requirements including lifting 50 pounds, prolonged standing and walking.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patients highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Licensure:
• Experience: None required.
• In the state of practice: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the state of practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements
• Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
