Job summary

Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage is seeking a Nurse Extern for its Medical Unit on a PRN basis. You will gain hands-on experience while supporting RN staff and learning the full scope of the Registered Nurse role as you progress through your nursing program.

Applicants must be currently in nursing school and have completed the Nursing Foundations Course, with BLS within 7 days and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 90 days of start date.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be currently enrolled in a nursing program.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 7 days of start date.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, specimen collection as progress is made.
• Document care and communicate updates with the nursing team promptly.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and health guidance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and follow infection prevention practices.
• Engage in learning opportunities and develop a personal career development plan with supervisor.
