Job summary

Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, seeks a Nurse Extern for the Medical-Surgical unit on a PRN basis to gain hands-on experience while supporting patient care under supervision. You will assist with ADLs, monitor vitals, and learn the full scope of the RN role as you progress through your nursing program.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an approved nursing program, have or will obtain Basic Life Support within 30 days, and hold CNA certification.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Engaging with learning opportunities and partnering with supervisor to build your career development plan
